Post-surgery care procedures

You did the procedure, and now?

The human body needs time to recover after any surgical procedure, and with the implant treatment, it is no different. Considering this, it is important to follow the instructions to have a better recovery. See below some important post-op care.

If you fell some pain

Take your medication as prescribed by your dentist, this will help relieve discomfort. Also, if the muscles in your mouth hurt, massage them is a suitable alternative. However, if there is excessive blood, consult your dentist for guidance.

About the enviroment

It is important to avoid hot and stuffy environments. Try to avoid too much sun exposure, humidity, and rain.

Take care of your mouth and lips

Apply ice packs to your face around the operated area following your dentist's instructions. To prevent ice from directly contacting your skin, you can use a thin cloth. Also, try not to spit, rinse, or use a straw during the period indicated by your dentist. Keeping your lips moist with lip balm is also beneficial.

Get some rest

After the procedure, try to avoid exercising, lifting weights, and driving. Besides that, aim to speak calmly and in moderation.

Keep an eye on your diet

Try to avoid drinking or eating until the effects of the anesthetic have passed, especially during the first 24 hours after surgery. Also, avoid hot foods and beverages like coffee, tea, or soup. It is strongly recommended that you do not smoke or drink alcohol.
When you eat, chew on the opposite side of the surgery. Opt for liquid or soft foods, especially cold or iced options like ice cream, yogurt, cold soups, and broths, particularly during the first 24 hours.
Do not let the food accumulate at the points of the surgery, and to clean these areas, use cotton swabs with antiseptic. Hydration during this period is essential, so drink plenty of water, and gradually return to your normal eating habits, especially starting from the third day after the surgery.

Oral hygiene is essential

Brush your teeth without or with little toothpaste, excluding the operated area(s), where you should use a post-op toothbrush (without touching the gums). Also, remember to brush your tongue and use a tongue cleaner or gauze.
You should use dental floss, except in the operated area, and remember, before any use of dental floss in this area, we recommend that you obtain prior authorization from your dentist.

Take some cares before going to bed

Try to sleep with your head raised compared to your body and lie face up or on the opposite side to where you were operated on. Remember to not touch your stitches with your fingers or any other object.
Considering all these points, it is important to follow these guidelines, and if you have any doubts, contact your dentist.
