A revolution in digital dentistry: Straumann’s Vision at IDS 2025

Strategic focus on customer-centric innovation: The Straumann Group IDS 2025 Media Event showcased its latest innovations in dental technology, emphasizing digitalization, workflow efficiency, and collaboration. Silvia Dobry, Head of Corporate Communications, opened the event, introducing key speakers including CEO Guillaume Daniellot, Head of Implantology Andreas Utz, and Chief Technology and Information Officer Thomas Friese. The event highlighted Straumann’s strategic focus on customer-centric innovation in implantology and orthodontics, as well as the role of digitalization in modern dentistry.

Three pillars of transformation: Innovation, Education, and Digitalization
CEO Guillaume Daniellot emphasized the three critical pillars of the company’s strategy: innovation, education, and digitalization. Innovation remains central to differentiating Straumann from competitors, focusing on advanced materials such as titanium and zirconium, as well as surface treatments that improve clinical outcomes. Education is equally crucial, as implantology and orthodontics require ongoing postgraduate training. Additionally, digitalization has transformed dental workflows, allowing for more efficient and standardized treatment solutions. The introduction of Straumann® AXS, a cloud-based digital ecosystem, is a testament to this digital shift, enabling seamless data integration and improved patient engagement.

A breakthrough in implantology: The Straumann® iExcel Implant Performance System
A major highlight of the event was the introduction of iExcel. This new implant line integrates four different implant designs within a single system, simplifying procedures while maintaining high clinical performance. The system includes advanced material compositions like Roxolid® which enhances osteointegration and durability. Additionally, treatment options are expanded with new diameters for immediate extraction and placement, catering to complex cases. The presentation underscored how digitalization, combined with solid innovations and highend materials, is revolutionizing dental workflows.

Next-gen 3D Printing: Collaboration with SprintRay

Further advancing digital capabilities, Straumann presented its collaboration with SprintRay, a leader in 3D printing technology. The integration of SprintRay’s Midas system with the Straumann Access platform streamlines workflows, allowing clinicians to 3D print dental restorations seamlessly. This partnership enables chairside production of crowns, reducing patient wait times and increasing efficiency. The AI-powered workflow ensures ease of use, making advanced dental technology accessible to a broader range of practitioners without requiring extensive training. This collaboration exemplifies Straumann’s commitment to open digital architecture, ensuring compatibility with existing systems in dental practices.

Balancing technology with clinical expertise and continuous education

The event concluded with a discussion on the implications of digitalization in dentistry. While technology simplifies workflows and improves efficiency, the speakers emphasized the continued need for clinical education. Advanced tools and AI-driven diagnostics assist but do not replace the foundational knowledge required for high-quality dental care. The integration of robotics and AI in future treatments was also mentioned, signaling an ongoing evolution in digital dentistry. The event underscored Straumann’s leadership in combining cutting-edge technology with practical applications, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes and clinical efficiency.
