In this issue, the editor’s choice is the article published in the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry “Increased Peri-implant Bone Formation Around Simultaneously Grafted Hydrophilic Microrough Titanium Implants: An Exploratory Human Histometric Analysis in Four Patients” authored by Alexandre Perez.
The article elucidates the impact of implant surface hydrophilicity on early osseointegration and peri-implant bone formation around simultaneously grafted implants in humans. The authors conclude that the combination of the implant surface properties and bone grafts significantly influences peri-implant bone formation. This study indirectly corroborates the findings of our seminal work on the SLActive® surface, led by Prof. N. Lang and collaborators, which demonstrated the superiority of the SLActive® surface in enhancing the speed of bone healing and osseointegration compared to other implant surfaces.
