Description

Bone augmentation is often necessary to ensure proper implant placement in the prosthetic ideal position. Among the various techniques available, the shell technique developed by Prof. Khoury has become a widely accepted standard in bone augmentation. Recent advancements, including augmentative relining and the use of allogeneic bone plates, have further improved outcomes and reduced patient morbidity. This course provides an in-depth exploration of both autologous and allogeneic approaches to bone grafting, addressing critical questions such as the role of autologous bone as the gold standard, the effectiveness and safety of allogeneic bone replacement materials, and the essential surgical prerequisites for success. Through clinical case studies, video demonstrations, and hands-on exercises with models and pig jaws, participants will develop a comprehensive understanding of the instruments, materials, and techniques required for successful bone augmentation and soft tissue management.

Target group: Implantologist, Periodontist, Prosthodontist

Product segments: Biomaterials, Implantology

Learning objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to: Identify the essential instruments and materials for the shell technique in bone augmentation. Differentiate between autologous and allogeneic bone grafting methods, including their indications, limitations, and potential as a new gold standard. Perform autologous bone harvesting and augmentation using the shell technique with confidence. Understand the concept and benefits of augmentative relining during implantation. Evaluate the safety and efficacy of allogeneic bone grafts and their role in modern implantology. Apply soft tissue management strategies to enhance the success of shell technique augmentation and implantation. Recognize and manage potential complications associated with bone augmentation procedures.
